Whose tradition is it really? Sometimes i wonder

I know for years my mothers side of the family has gathered for Thanksgiving. As many as can make it attend. As my cousins & I grew older & had families of our own, the gathering grew to a size that now requires a community center space to accommodate us all. I really love seeing my family & catching up face to face but I look around & notice our children don't really know each other. My cousins children all hang together with each of their cousins but not with their cousins from other families. I only have 1 sister and each of us have 2 boys. Hers r younger than mine but not too young. It just seems weird that the adults can chat it up w each other, my cousins & I were close growing up but has our family gotten so large our children can't really know each other? One would expect in this age of rapid fire communication our kids should know each other better. So what is missing here? So now I wonder are we doing this get together for the right reason? Who are we really doing it for?
